Meet the Fishermen:

Jen Alvarez

Jen Alvarez

Coast to Coast Marine

Jen is a San Diego based chef and emerging commercial fisherman whose work bridges local seafood, storytelling, and community. Raised in Florida fishing the Gulf of Mexico with her father and grandfather, and with deep family roots in commercial fishing in Belgium, Jen grew up on the water from a young age. Trained as a chef, Jen attended culinary school in New York and developed a strong foundation in farm to table cooking and local sourcing. After relocating to San Diego, she transitioned into culinary consulting and hosting highly curated farm to table dinners. For more than a decade, these dinners have centered on whole animal cooking, seasonal produce, and fish Jen caught herself. In recent years, Jen’s passion for fishing led her to purchase her own boat and obtain a commercial fishing license, allowing her to directly connect her catch with chefs who value freshness, sustainability, and thoughtful handling of seafood. With a unique perspective as both a chef and fisherman, Jen is deeply committed to getting high quality local fish into the hands of people who truly appreciate it, while helping build a more connected and transparent local seafood system.

Forrest Bogue

Forrest Bogue

Fayal Fisheries

Founded 2024 by Forrest Bogue, Fayal Fisheries LLC aims to provide the freshest seafood from the Pacific Ocean straight to you. Fayal Fisheries was named in honor of his family who emigrated from the Azores Islands off Portugal onboard whaling ships of yesteryear. At present, our goal is to fish sustainably and provide quality seafood to valued customers at local community-based platforms or through wholesale businesses. Fishing locally helps provide an excellent product, never frozen and properly handled. We remain passionate about maintaining a valuable ecosystem and caring for every fish that comes over the rail. Forrest primarily fishes by hook and line gear. These methods of fishing allow operations to target specific species of fish all while being able to release undesirable catch quickly and efficiently back to the ocean unharmed.

JJ Gerritsen

JJ Gerritsen

The Craft Fish Company

Captain JJ Gerritsen’s been on the water his whole life, and he’s still at the helm today. As captain of our family boat the Piky, he leads every trip, catching every albacore by hand with skill, care, and deep respect for the ocean. By catching fish one at a time with a pole and line, we avoid waste, protect ocean habitats, and ensure future generations can fish these same waters. There’s no industrial damage. No unintended catch. Just a deep respect for the sea and the life it sustains. The Craft Fish Company is a small business with deep roots. We do it all ourselves, from catching the fish to packing your order. Every fish we pack is traceable, and every decision we make is built around sustainability. Because to us, stewardship isn’t a marketing word, it’s a way of life. If we can’t do it right, we don’t do it.
